Acclaimed local pianist John Leighton is to launch his long-awaited debut album ‘Dramatic Life’ this Thursday evening, December 8, at Sandinos Back Room.

Raised near Derry, John Leighton began playing keyboards at the age of seventeen.

Soon realising his devotion to music would become the positive direction he craved, John moved to England to study music at Leeds College of Music, where for the first time he began learning about jazz.

On his return to Northern Ireland three years, later he began working with mentor figures such as jazz trumpeter Linley Hamilton.

Now in his mid-twenties and firmly based in Belfast, he has strengthened his name as a pianist and composer. He has also become popular for his touring tributes to the jazz greats, recently including Miles Davis and Chet Baker.

Among his contemporaries in the North West, John is a hugely respected and wildly talented musician.

Don’t miss the launch of ‘Dramatic Life’ this Thursday evening, December 8, at Sandinos Back Room at 7pm. Admission £5 and albums will be for sale at the gig.

“Judging by this debut, John Leighton is a fine pianist/composer whose music has distinction and individuality.” (The Irish Times)
