Police have confirmed a pipe bomb exploded in the Waterside area of Derry yesterday morning (April 3)

A PSNI spokeswoman says a motive for the incident at a house in Bond Street is still being investigated.

“We are still waiting on a full report from ATO in relation to the device.

“Anyone with any information about the incident or who saw any suspicious activity in the Bond Street early in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 April is asked to contact Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111,” she said.

Police yesterday attended the scene after receiving reports of a suspicious object being found in the area. That security alert, which saw a number of roads closed, ended at around 3:30pm
