The Housing Executive said that housing need has been identified in isolated pockets locally, with the greatest need in Eglinton, Strathfoyle and Sion Mills.
A spokeswoman said: “Eleven new homes are currently under construction in Strathfoyle with a further six homes planned for Main Street in Eglinton for 2017/18. We will also be examining the availability of sites with the potential for housing development in those areas.”
There are also low levels of need at Drumahoe and Nixon’s Corner, with eight homes are planned.
“In all other rural areas, social housing demand is largely being met by turnover of existing social housing stock,” she added.
The Housing Executive is testing for hidden need in rural areas, and is, said the spokesperson, “happy to visit and talk to local community groups where there may be concerns about a lack of social or affordable housing.”
