Police appeal after object catches fire at house in Magilligan

Police in Limavady are appealing for witnesses following an incident at a house in Limestone Road in Magilligan after an object was left at the front door and caught fire.

It is understood the object was some type of plastic container.

Chief Inspector Catherine Magee said: “Local police officers responded to a call from a householder who reported that an object had been left at the front door and caught fire. The victim extinguished the object with water prior to the arrival of police and firefighters.

“Damage was caused to the front door however no one was injured.”

Police say the incident happened shortly before 2am and police want to speak to anyone who was in the Limestone Road area around that time and saw or heard anything suspicious to contact them on 101.

“Or, if someone would like to pass information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111,” added the spokesperson.
