Detectives in Foyle are appealing for information following an incident in the Linsfort Drive area on the evening of Wednesday, February 25.

At approximately 9.30pm, an NIE staff member was working at an electric box in the area when two masked men said that they had put something into the back of his van and he was to drive it to Strand Road. The NIE worker ran away instead and a report was made to police. The front of the van was set on fire while it was still parked in Linsfort Drive.

The van has been thoroughly checked and nothing suspicious was found.

Detective Sergeant Gillen said: “I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact CID at Strand Road Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
