POLICE in Derry are urging people to make sure their homes are super-secure in the countdown to Christmas following a spate of burglaries in recent weeks.
In the past seven days alone, there have been several burglaries both in the city and in outlying rural areas.
In one incident, a female, believed to be Eastern European, broke into a house through a bathroom window in the Dellwood area of Eglinton on December 11.
Just two days later, two males entered a house in the Carn Manor area in the early hours and stole a number of items, including the keys to a white van.
Meanwhile, a handbag was stolen during the burglary of a house in the Ardnashee area during the early hours of Sunday.
Police say people need to take extra precautions in the run-up to Christmas. They’ve warned people not to make their property an easy target.
“We shouldn’t get complacent. Always ensure doors and windows are closed and locked,” said a spokesman.
