The onslaught of welfare reform makes it critical that people achieve their full entitlement to benefits and in particular older people who are losing up to £1.2 million every week in Pension Credit alone.
This is the view of SDLP elected representatives in Coleraine and Limavady who have undertaken special training organised by the access to benefits organisation A2B.
Speaking on behalf of the Councillors, staff and volunteers, Assembly Member John Dallat said: “One in three older people are not receiving their full entitlement. In reality £62million in Pension Credit is lost to older people and the Northern Ireland economy every year through unclaimed Pension Credit alone.
“I am delighted that my Council colleagues in Coleraine and Limavady, as well as staff and volunteers have undergone the A2B Access to Benefits training programme which means a greater number of my constituents can have a check to see if they are losing out.
The programme is totally confidential and takes only a short time to complete. Constituency Offices at 20 Linenhall Street, Limavady and 11 Bridge Street, Kilrea are fully geared up to help.”
