Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has called on the people in the Dungiven area to make their views known on the future of the Dungiven PSNI station during the present consultation period.
Mr Ó hOisín said: “Not one person visited Dungiven PSNI station last year yet it cost over £51,000 to maintain the station so it is obvious it must close and the monies directed into frontline policing in the community.
“Modern policing has more to do with engaging with the community than maintaining obsolete structures so it is important that the community engage with the PSNI to ensure that the Dungiven station is closed and returned to the community.
“I am calling on the local community to engage with the upcoming consultation to ensure that the views of the local community are heard.
“In order to make a submission the public should contact your Neighbourhood Team - NPTLimavadyRural@psni.pnn.police.uk, write to Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson at Limavady PSNI, 11 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0EA marking your letters - PSNI Estate Review or you can telephone CI Donaldson or Inspector Jenny Hudson on 0845 600 8000.
