An information evening is being held at Magilligan Community Centre, Thursday 1st March 2012, from 4-8pm regarding plans for the wastewater system.
NI Water plans to invest £8 million to rationalise and upgrade the wastewater collection and treatment systems in the Benone/Magillian area to include a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment works located on a Greenfield site off the Point Road.
“This major investment will deliver significant environmental benefits in the area and the project team will be available throughout the evening to discuss the scheme,” said a spokesperson.
Sinn Féin representative in Magilligan Cllr Cathal McLaughlin welcomed NI Water Service’s commitment to start work on a local waste water treatment plant including inlet works, control building, membrane bioreactors, sludge holding tanks and storm balancing tanks. The project is estimated to cost £8million.
Cllr McLaughlin said: “This is long overdue but very welcome news indeed. I have arranged with NI Water to hold a public information event between 4.00pm and 8.00pm in the Magilligan Community Centre on Thursday 1st March. It will be an informal event so that the local community can call in to inspect the plans and discuss any issues of interest to them.”
