Sinn Féin sources in Derry have said that Bridget Meehan is likely to replace Waterside councillor Lynn Fleming on Derry City Council.
It was announced last week that colr. Fleming is stepping down from Council after 16 years ahead of the Review of Public Administration.
A selection convention is due to be held in the coming weeks but senior party sources have indicated that Waterside woman Bridget Meehan is likely to be chosen.
A married mother-of-one, Ms Meehan has worked in the community sector in the Waterside for more than five years and has also been involved in the campaign to deliver the expansion of the university at Magee.
Ms Meehan has a PhD in computer science and worked in the computing for more than ten years in both the private and higher education sectors.
She moved into the community sector five years ago when she took up a position as strategy manager with the Waterside Neighbourhood Partnership, helping to deliver a neighbourhood renewal plan for the area to tackle economic and social disadvantage.
Ms Meehan has also been involved in the development of the One Plan and represents Sinn Féin on the strategy board to implement the plan.
She also sits on the board of InterTrade Ireland.
