Councillors and officers from Limavady Borough Council held a workshop with representatives from the City of Culture Company and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.
“The purpose of the workshop, initiated by Limavady Borough Council, was to learn more about how Limavady Borough might compliment and benefit from the wide and varied programme of events planned for Derry-Londonderry 2013 UK City of Culture year,” said a spokesperson.
City of Culture representatives, including the Chief Executive and representatives from both the programming and marketing teams gave a very interesting and informative overview of the events already previewed to the public in May 2012.
“There was also opportunity for Council members and officers to discuss with both organisations a number of topics, themes and plans for developing events and programmes in the Limavady area in 2013,” said a spokesperson.
“The workshop also explored ways in which Limavady businesses and other stakeholders might benefit from the increase in the number of visitors expected to travel to the city to take part in and enjoy the events planned for UK City of Culture Year.”
Council says it plans to arrange a meeting with its borough stakeholders, at which City of Culture and DCAL representatives have indicated their willingness to attend.
“All parties are committed to pursuing and discussing further the range of opportunities that Limavady Borough citizens, businesses and Council as a whole, working together, can benefit from, through complimenting the neighbouring City of Culture programme,” added the spokesperson.
