Sinn Féin Mayor of Limavady Sean McGlinchey has accused Councillor Boyd Douglas of “deliberately undermining the role of Limavady Council by bringing flags and emblems into the council chamber”.

In a statement issued after Tuesday’s meeting which was adjourned, Mr McGlinchey said: “Limavady Council meeting had to be suspended again after Boyd Douglas of the TUV broke Council protocol by bringing another Union flag into the chamber.

“Boyd Douglas waited until I took the Chair of the meeting before producing the flag in an attempt to antagonise me and disrupt the meeting. I gave Mr Boyd every opportunity to remove his flag before having to suspend the meeting.

“There is important business to be carried out and Boyd Douglas antics has again interfered with the need of the Council to meet.

“The people of Limavady Borough are beginning to get sick and tired of his childish behaviour.

“I am prepared to sit down with anyone and discuss a way forward which will allow the council chamber to remain neutral in terms of flags and emblems so as to allow council meeting to precede.”
