Rights award for Derry man

Derry civil rights veteran Fionnbarra O Dochartaigh received the Dr Con McCluskey Civil Rights award at this year’s McCluskey Summer School.

Mr O Dochartaigh, a founder member of the NI Civil Rights Association, was presented with the award by Michael Farrell, leader of the People’s Democracy march from Belfast to Derry in January 1969 which was attacked by loyalists at Burntollet.

Previous recipients of the award include the late Taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald and John Hume.
