SDLP Councillor Shauna Cusack has said that she is appalled at illegal fly tipping in the Creggan burn area of the city.
She said: “I was disgusted to come across two incidents of dumping recently in the Cregganburn area, commonly known as the Glen Field. This is a beautiful green area where children and families often play football, walk their dogs and is also an ideal habitat for local wildlife including foxes and badgers.
“I was shocked to see large piles of builders waste, wood, stone block, paint buckets and other hardware materials. Even more concerning is that someone has attempted to burn the flammable elements, posing a serious health and safety risk to the local children who play there.
“Those responsible obviously have no regard for the neighbourhood or the environment. This is a serious crime and I would urge anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious, particularly a dumper lorry in the past week or so to report any it to Environmental Health in Derry City Council. This can be done totally anonymously.
“This activity is illegal and there should be serious consequences for those behind it.”
