Sinn Féin Councillor Dermot Nicholl has welcomed the measures announced by Assistant Chief Constable Steven Martin designed to reduce deaths on our road.
Mr. Nicholl said: “I fully support the PSNI in announcing a no tolerance stance against drivers who drive carelessly.
“Over the past two years deaths on our road have been on the increase after several years of a decline and these actions are intended to reverse the current trend.
“The measures are designed to get drivers to slow down, wear a seatbelt and not to use a mobile phone while driving.
“Statistics show that these three areas contribute to a large proportion of deaths on our roads so I would appeal to drivers to work with all the agencies and adhere to the rules of the road.”
