Professor Green said he was overwhelmed with how Derry fans received him when he arrived in the city on Thursday.
Professor Green, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, is a singer-songwriter/rapper from Hackney in London, and when he took to the MTV Crashes stage in Ebrington on Friday night he was welcomed with open arms.
“I took a little walk across the Peace Bridge on Thursday night and we went for some tapas in Karma - it was really, really nice.
“Then today, we walked into town and went to Nando’s in Shipquay Street - I met quite a few fans and everyone wished me well for the concert.
“I can honestly say that since I have come to Derry everyone has been so nice to me. I’ve performed in Ireland quite a few times before but Derry will most certainly go down as one of the best.”
Professor Green is married to ‘Made In Chelsea’ star, Millie Mackintosh. When asked if Derry would be a destination he would consider bringing his wife to for a weekend getaway he joked “absolutley not”.
“It’s so bloody cold here. I want to go some where where there’s plenty of sun and heat. It’s warmer in London than it is here. Absolutely not,” he smiled.
Young people from all of the North travelled to Ebrington catch a glimpse of their idols.
Sarah Marie McLaughlin (17) from Carnhill said she had to endure a long wait before getting her hands on tickets but said after seeing the likes of Professor Green, MNEK and Neon Jungle perform live, it was worth the wait.
“I camped out with my friends all night when the tickets went on sale and unfortunately we didn’t get any.
“For the last few weeks I hunted Facebook and everywhere else to see if anyone was giving away tickets and then I got lucky.
“I wanted to go MTV Crashes even before the lineup was finalised but when I heard Professor Green was coming, nothing was going to stop me.
“Tonight’s concert has been absolutely amazing and I hope the young people of Derry will have more nights like this in the years to come,” she said.
