Local man Matt Grant isn’t a man for ‘big surprises’ but when he decided to propose to his girlfriend Siobhan Gill, he pulled out all the stops.
The proposal, which took place in Guildhall Square on Sunday 21st December, was filmed by his good friend, and local filmmaker Tony Carlin, and saw 18 of the couple’s closest friends and family get in on the act.
Matt explains, “I met Siobhan over two years ago, and from the first date knew she was ‘the one’.
“Then my Granny, May McMenamin, who I was very close to, passed away last month, aged 82. Siobhan was my rock during this tough time and I’m sure my granny would have been over the moon to see her grandson finally pop the question.
“So I roped in our family and friends, gathered them on the Derry walls with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ typed in large letters on separate boards. They called Siobhan’s name as she walked across Guildhall Square, then when she saw the question she turned around to see me down on one knee.
“I was so nervous beforehand and I’m so delighted Tony captured it all on video - thankfully she said yes or it would be one for YouTube!”
