Chris Riddell has won a number of major prizes, including the 2001 and 2004 CILIP Kate Greenaway medals.

‘Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse’ won the Costa Children’s Book Award 2013. His previous work for Macmillan includes the bestselling Ottoline books, ‘The Emperor of Absurdia’, and with Paul Stewart, ‘The Edge Chronicles’.

Pupils enjoyed a very humorous talk about his work and met with him afterwards at a book signing and photograph session.

Year 9 pupil, Sophia Carlisle, reached an impressive milestone earlier this year when she was awarded a certificate for having read over one million words to date through the school’s Accelerated Reading programme.

Pupils complete a book and take an online test that assesses the level of depth to which the text was read and the pupils ability to recall the storyline and specific facts about the characters and situations.

The school says Sophia is now working on her next one million words.
