When Glack man Breffni King was watching Ireland cruise to victory against the West Indies in Nelson, New Zealand, in the early hours of Monday he couldn’t believe it when he spotted an old friend from Limavady.

Breffni spotted Limavady man Ryan Connolly and his friend Shane McCormick from Ballykelly. The pair were flying the flag, or banner in this case, for Limavady.

The two Roe Valley men were holding a huge banner emblazoned with the word LIMAVADY in green and yellow, and the greeting ‘Hello mum and dad’.

Breffni captured the moment and posted a screen shot on Facebook.

“I knew Ryan and Shane were out there and that the cricket was on so I set my alarm to get up and watch it,” said Breffni. “I was watching it on Sky and I saw a banner and I thought, ‘did that say Limavady?’. I rewound it and it dawned on me, ‘that’s Ryan’. It was brilliant.”

One comment on facebook read: “that’s pride right there” while another said: “Very good boys putting Limavady on the map lol”.
