Questions asked about Drumsurn outdoor gym

Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers said the former Limavady Borough Council agreed to move forward with the project she said cost in the region of £30,000, and which included a plan for allotments.

The outdoor gym was planned for an area beside the community hall in Drumsurn.

“Despite raising the issue on more times than I can count with council officials there has been no movement on this issue at all, and I have received no updates,” said Colr. Chivers.

“The funding for the equipment was signed off for over two years ago under the old Limavady Borough Council, however, the new council won’t seem to take any responsibility for installing it and, as far as I can tell, it has been left forgotten about in a warehouse somewhere.”

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said officers are currently awaiting confirmation of installation costs before they are able to proceed and said the Outdoor Gym at Drumsurn is prioritised as an outstanding Legacy project.

The spokesperson for Causeway Council said: “Officers are currently awaiting confirmation of installation costs before they are able to proceed.

“As a result of key lead officers within Limavady Borough Council who were involved in the project not transferring across into the new organisation (CC&GBC), the project was delayed until such staff vacancies were populated and the project reallocated.

“The Outdoor Gym at Drumsurn is now prioritised as an outstanding Legacy Project.

“Money was approved by Limavady Borough Council for both an outdoor gym and allotments, breakdown of costs require updating but it is expected that the monetary split will be approximately 80% outdoor gym, 20 per cent allotments.”

Colr. Chivers said the facilities “are much needed” and “many people in the community have enquired about where it has gone. Otherwise, ratepayers money will have just been wasted.”
