Two brothers who were born in Redcastle and emigrated to America have been honoured and remembered for their contribution to the community there.

A ceremony took place last Friday, Otober 24th in Medford, Massachussets, to honour and remember Johnny and Charlie Murphy who were born in Ballayargus
in Redcastle.

Johnny (1902-1996) and Charlie (1900-1992) were two of eight Murphys to emigrate to the USA.

The two brothers built a very successful local business in Medford and became an integral and important part of the local community there.

In remembrance and honour of that contribution the corner on which their business was located has been renamed
‘Murphy’s Corner.’

The ceremony on Friday was conducted by the city Mayor Michael J McGlynn and attended by family members and public
representatives.
