A Derry schoolboy will live every young Manchester United fan’s dream when he steps out on the Old Trafford turf this Sunday.

Reece Friel from Altnagelvin has won a place to play football in the world-famous ‘Theatre of Dreams’ during ‘Champions Day’.

The Sacred Heart Primary School pupil, took part in a player development course run by Manchester United Soccer Schools in Derry in 2010 and, as one of the top performers, was rewarded with an exclusive prize to attend ‘Champions Day’.

Reece will join approximately 50 children to take part in a specialist football workshop at Old Trafford with the top coaches at Manchester United Soccer Schools; enjoy a backstage tour of the stadium and even make the journey down the club’s sacred tunnel and onto the pitch.

Reece is bursting with excitement at the prospect.

“I had such a great time at Manchester United Soccer Schools last year and I can’t believe I have been chosen to play at Old Trafford on Champions Day. I am so excited to walk out onto the pitch and spend a day playing football in the stadium,” he said.

Emma Savage, Head of Manchester United Soccer Schools, said: “Every young player that attends one of our coaching courses has the opportunity to be selected to attend Champions Day with Manchester United Soccer Schools. It is a fantastic experience for any young footballer to develop their confidence and football skills in an amazing setting.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United Soccer Schools is inviting aspiring footballers aged six to 16 from Derry to follow in Reece’s footsteps by taking part in one of the two-day player development courses in the North, where one lucky player from each course will be invited to attend ‘Champions Day’ 2012.

At a cost of £69.95, the course includes expert training from UEFA qualified coaches from Manchester United Soccer Schools, use of state of the art training equipment and a player diary to help monitor progress and ongoing development. Attendees of the course will also be in with a chance of winning tickets to see Manchester United play in a Premier League home match.
