Fears are rising more and more families will have their homes repossessed this year because of the economic downturn.
The concern comes from Ireland’s housing charity, Respond Housing Associations, sparking Inishowen’s councillor and election hopeful Padraig MacLochlainn to warn if there’s no change in government policies families will be left to pay the price.
The charity predicts repossession will soar in coming months but Cllr MacLochlainn says they’re already ‘hanging heavy over many people’s heads’.
Speaking to the Journal this week, he said: “I have been speaking to people across this constituency and the fear of repossession is hanging heavy over many people’s heads.
“In a lot of cases, it is young families who face losing their homes because they can no longer afford their mortgages.”
