A man was rescued from Buncrana pier on Sunday night after getting into difficulty.
Inishowen Garda Superintendent Eugene McGovern told the ‘Journal’ Buncrana Gardai received a report at around 9.55pm of a man in the water at the pier.
Three Gardai went to the scene where on arrival, they found that a member of the public had thrown a lifebuoy to the man. The three Gardai then swam out to him and he was taken to shore, where the emergency services including the fire and ambulance service and Lough Swilly RNLI were in attendance.
The man, who had mild hypothermia, was later transferred to Letterkenny University Hospital.
The incident comes just over a month after five members of the same family lost their lives at Buncrana pier in March.
