Calling all cyclists - are you up for a challenge? Are you in a club/group or just enjoy cycling to keep fit. We want to hear from you!
The North West Charity Cycle Challenge is a two day cycle starting on Saturday 26th April and finishing on Sunday 27th April 2014.
Day one starts with a complimentary full cooked breakfast 8.30am and 9.30am and cyclists will set off from St Anne’s Hall, Faughanvale at 10am and cycle route via Derry, Strabane, Victoria Bridge, Castlederg, Killen(Lunch Stop), Scraggy Mountain, Kesh, Boa Island, Beleek, Ballyshannon, Bundoran with an overnight stay at the Great Northern Hotel Bundoran.
Next morning the cyclists will saddle up and cycle back to Faughanvale by a different route home, travelling via Ballyshannon, Donegal, Barnesmore Gap, Ballybofey/Stranorlar, Convoy (light refreshments), Raphoe, St Johnston, Derry and Eglinton.
Jim O’Hara, one of the organisers of the North West Charity Cycle Challenge, explains that the beneficiaries of the cycle will be The Shalom Center for Peace and Reconciliation in Kenya and The Foyle Hospice.
“These two charities are very different but they are all doing excellent work.
“We hope the cycle will help raise awareness of this and also help raise much needed funds to help them continue with their work.
“The minimum sponsorship is £180. This includes a £50 registration fee deposit to secure your place on the cycle and covers all meals, drink stops en route and overnight accommodation in Bundoran.
“This is a well organised event with an experienced backup team including full medical cover (Ambulance & First Aid Car), road safety marshalls, mobile mechanic, catering & logistics crew,” adds Jim.
