The heartbroken family of Gerry McCloskey from Greysteel, who died suddenly on Sunday as he was on his way to the Derry match in Dungiven, have thanked those who helped their loved one.
The well-respected 76-year-old took ill suddenly as he made his way to Owenbeg, and despite the best efforts of those who tried to help him, he sadly passed away.
The McCloskey family thank all those who offered assistance to Gerry at Owenbeg; members of Derry GAA; and doctors, medics and the staff at Altnagelvin Hospital.
Faughanvale GAA chairman, Eamonn King, said: “Gerry was very much respected and well-liked in our community; a real gentleman. The thoughts, prayers and sympathies of everyone at the club are with the family at this sad time.”
Gerry is survived by his wife Celia, daughters Geraldine, Loretta and Roisin, son Cathal, and five grandchildren.
