He also appealed for more people to use the pedestrian crossing a few yards away rather than chancing a crossing at the busy junction with Bligh’s Lane.

Councillor Kelly said: “I have been approached by a number of residents and motorists concerned that there could be a very serious accident at the junctions of Bligh’s Lane and Elmwood Terrace following a number of incidents there.

“One motorist reported to me a group of children on bikes came down the hill at Bligh’s Lane didn’t stop at the junction and flew straight out in front of him and he said it was sheer luck they didn’t hit his car with awful consequences.

“Residents I have spoken to would tell you this is a common occurrence at this junction with small children also taking chances running across the road. Vehicles are also travelling in excess of the 30 mph on this stretch of road.

“I would urge local parents to inform their children about the dangers of crossing this busy road and would encourage more people to use the pedestrian crossing which is located a few yards away from the junction.”
