A local welfare rights advisor says future generations will be without homes unless the Housing Executive is saved in its current form.
Kathleen Bradley of Dove House told the ‘Sunday’: We need to save the Housing Executive.
“It is essentially owned by the people and if we continue to let private companies build our social housing we will lose control, both of the housing list and the quality control.”
Ms Bradley also said the Housing Executive needs to be building more houses.
“Private landlords are filling the gap but for how long?
“The housing list continues to grow and I envisage a future where there will be no homes for our young people.
“Private landlords are also unregulated and there is currently no benchmark for a decent standard.
“At least the Housing Executive maintains their homes.”
