A 91 one year old woman and a bride nipping out from her own wedding celebrations will be among the 2013 women in bridal attire who will flood Derry’s Guildhall Square on April 27 in a bid to set Derry’s second Guinness World Record in as many months.

The organisers are hoping that, inline with 2013 marking Derry’s landmark year as UK City of Culture, at least 2013 “brides” will take part in the fun event, which will also be raising money for the Foyle Hospice.

Anyone can take part – whether they are married or not – the only stipulation is that everyone wanting to participate must wear a wedding dress - and each participant must also wear some form of hairpiece.

It’s not too late to get involved as the more brides who want to become involved, the better.

Event organiser Mary Olive Fullerton said: “We want to see as big a turnout as possible to raise money for a very worthy cause, the Foyle Hospice.

“It will be a great fun day out for everyone involved and will create a little bit of history when we have thousands of brides crossing the Peace Bridge.”

Brides Across The Bridge in aid of Foyle Hospice Guinness World Record Attempt will take place Saturday 27th April and will now start and finish at the Guildhall Square. Brides will gather in Guildhall Square at around 3pm before walking toward and across the Peace Bridge, into Ebrington Square then returning to Guildhall Square.

Brides are travelling from all over to take part in this spectacular event including Belfast, Dublin, Wicklow, Liverpool, London and Manchester. No dress? No excuse! Austins of The Diamond and Beautiful Day Bridal Cottage have donated dress which will be available to hire for £20 for the day.

Registration and dress hire will be at Austin’s this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 11am – 4pm. There will also be registration at Marks & Spencer Crescent Link Friday 19th 11am-6pm, Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre Friday 19th 10am-8pm and Eurospar/Gee’s @ Rossdowney Saturday 20th 10am – 6pm.

Brides can also register at Yellow Moon in Richmond Centre or Foyle Hospice Fundraising Centre. Register over the phone by calling 028 71359888. Further details can be found at www.foylehospice.com
