The latest scam letter, which claims that the recipient has won £825,000, has been delivered to homes in Derry.

The ‘People’s Postcode Lottery’ urges ‘winners’ to call a number in London to claim their prize.

It also insists that “you are advised to keep your winning information confidential till your claims are processed.”

However, one local man has spoken out and says these letters are “awful”.

He continued, “I was quick enough to realise their claims couldn’t be true, but if it had landed on my elderly parents’ doorstep they might not have realised it was a scam.

“They obviously make money from you calling the number.

“I wanted to make people aware that these scam letters are still being sent out.”

When the ‘Journal’ investigated the telephone number online it soon became clear that hundreds of people are receiving these letters every day.

On one website an anonymous poster wrote, “It’s about time the police or government cracked down on these fraudsters. We are the lucky ones that can see it is a scam, but there will be a lot of vulnerable people that believes this letter and send them money.”
