A minibus carrying a group of Scottish republican supporters was attacked by masked stone throwers in the Bogside on Sunday night.

The group, Cairde na hÉireann (Friends of Ireland), the largest Irish republican group in Scotland, were in Derry for an Easter commemoration on Sunday.

Sinn Féin councillor Colly Kelly condemned the attack. “They had just left a function and were travelling along Rossville Street around 10.30pm when a number of youths with scarves up over their faces stepped out onto the pedestrian crossing. When the driver slowed down the youths threw stones at the bus, breaking a window. Those on the bus were shocked at the attack and is the last thing they expected on a visit to our city. There was a number of similar incidents around the Flyover on Sunday night carried out by a small gang of hoods,” he said.
