SDLP councillor Shauna Cusack has commended everyone who took to the streets, their phones or their social media accounts to help out their communities during the recent sudden snow storm.
“I have to commend all those who helped friends, neighbours and strangers during the recent inclement weather. Understandably not everyone is physically fit or able to take to the streets but luckily the community centre workers, arms-length bodies, political activists and youth groups were able to flex their muscles and help shovel the snow for those who couldn’t.
“It is important that those who gave their time and attention to call in on a neighbour, make calls and simply keep the public informed on Facebook and Twitter should not be forgotten. These selfless acts helped to keep everyone informed and provide a support network for all those affected by the weather. We cannot underestimate the importance of these small acts and with more bad weather predicted for the weekend I would encourage individuals to galvanise with community workers, local reps and volunteers again to help support each other.
“Should anyone require any help or emergency contacts please do not hesitate to contact myself or your local representative, we are always here to help.”
