Derry has big plans for a major seafood festival this summer.
Derry City Council wants to host an event which would include market stalls and cookery demonstrations in Guildhall Square.
Both the Loughs Agency and Safe Food have agreed to each commit £7,500 towards funding a festival with the City Council also asked to cough up a similar sum.
This would lever a total of £61,000 from Sea Fish UK to support chef engagement programmes, public awareness campaigns, celebrity chef endorsements and a major two day seafood festival.
Local SDLP councillor Martin Reilly says: “The Clipper Festival this summer gives Derry an opportunity to showcase all things maritime to a global audience and... this city has a great range of quality seafood and culinary excellence to display.”
