Derry City Council is calling for nominations for this year’s Women of the Year Awards, which are scheduled to take place in the City Hotel on March 9th.
Organised by Council’s Women’s Development section, the event aims to celebrate women in the Derry City Council area by acknowledging the contribution they have made within communities throughout the city over the past year.
Joanna Boyd, Council’s Women Officer says she was delighted at the success of last year’s event and explains the ethos of the Awards:
“The awards are aimed at acknowledging the pivotal role women play in shaping our society. With eleven categories every effort has been made to ensure that all possible opportunities for recognition have been identified.
“I hope that members of the public take the opportunity to use these awards to recognise someone they feel has made an invaluable contribution to the city.
Launching the event at the council offices, Mayor Maurice Devenney said:
“It has been my great privilege as Mayor to visit and witness some of the amazing initiatives and services managed and delivered by women who are making a real difference in our communities. I have seen everything from individual acts of courage and selflessness to collective efforts which can transform lives. I very much hope that, like last year, people will become involved with the Awards and use them as a means to support, recognise and celebrate the women of our city.”
