Derry’s first Queen of the Foyle Beauty Pageant will take place this April in the Everglades hotel.
Rachel McCauley and her team are on the hunt for Derry’s brightest young ladies to showcase their talents.
“We’re looking for someone who can represent Derry well and be a good role model for other young people in the city,” she said.
“We’ll be looking at how they present and carry themselves so they will need to have a lot of confidence. All in all we’re looking for someone with a lot of pride and dignity who is comfortable in their own skin.”
Rachel says the pageant is a good opportunity for local girls to showcase their talents.
“On the night the girls will have to complete an interview as well as a talent. Anyone who has a talent they would like to share, if they’re experienced in front of a crowd or not we’d like to hear from them. This can be singing, dancing or anything else in between.”
The judging panel who include former Miss Ireland Rosaline McCauley will be looking for a dynamic girl with a lot of personality.
“Even though it’s called a ‘beauty pageant’ beauty is not our main priority. The most important things we want to see is a good talent and an impressive interview.”
Rachel says the team have gone all out for this year’s event. “The pageant is being held at the Everglades which is a great venue in itself.
“It’s going to be a glamorous night very much adopting the American pageant style so we want the girls to feel as special as possible.”
Once crowned, the winner will receive a free photoshoot with ‘POP Images’ and will be encouraged to pursue their talent locally.
Registration for the Queen of the Foyle Beauty Pageant will take place on Thursday March 3 at the Everglades Hotel beginning at 7 p.m.
The competition is open to girls aged 14 -18 and the entry fee is £10. Entrants are asked to dress casually and complete an interview on registration night.
