A bike which had been found in Ballymagroarty earlier this week is not the missing bike belonging to Brooke McClements, the Journal can reveal.
Mum Denise who went to see the bike yesterday initially thought that her daughter’s prized possession had been found, and the family were overjoyed.
But Denise says that now, on further inspection they have realised that this is not the missing bike.
“Two things on the bike are different and the stickers are not the same,” she said.
The bike had been found by a woman in Ballymgroarty on Monday.
Seven years-old Brooke McClements was left heartbroken last week when heartless thieves stole the bike from her granny’s shed in Maydown.
Her Mum Denise revealed that Brooke was so upset because it was the last present her dad Ross bought her before he died.
Denise revealed that Brooke’s Dad Ross passed away on May 6 this year at home. He was only 32.
“Ross was a great guy,” she said. “Everyone liked Ross. He was a funny guy. He was a great father. He loved his girls and spent all the time he could with them when we weren’t working.
“His weekends were for his kids. The girls may only have had a short time with their dad but they have a lot more memories than some people who have their dad into their 30s, 40s or longer. He just took ill one day and that changed our lives completely.”
Denise said that the bike and flicker were stolen from the shed however the thieves left behind three other bikes and a power washer.
