The search for the best young singing talent in the North West has begun thanks to a brand new charity singing competition.
Local mental health charity Aware Defeat Depression are currently seeking the finest school-age vocal talents to take part in Singing Star North West in February 2015.
Entrants must be from Derry and be aged between 11 and 18-years-old and all styles are welcome – pop, opera, rap, musical theatre, and more.
All you have to do to enter is email a clip of you singing to firstname.lastname@example.org and include your contact details. The closing date for entries is Monday, January 5 at 3pm. Twelve finalists will go head-to-head in a live music spectacular in The Guildhall on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in front of three guest judges.
The special guest performer on the night is 2014 winner of The Voice UK, Andrea Begley. The County Tyrone chanteuse will also be one of the guest judges.
“I am delighted to be involved with Aware Defeat Depression and their Singing Star North West competition,” she said.
“There is so much fantastic singing talent out there waiting to be discovered and this is a great opportunity for young people to sing in front of a live audience.
“It’s also a great opportunity to raise money for such a good charity who are doing so much good work to help people affected by depression.”
With a public vote and a judges top three there will be plenty of prizes up for grabs.
Every penny raised from the event will go towards Aware Defeat Depression’s services and programmes to help people affected by depression.
The charity has 22 Support Groups across Northern Ireland including their two Derry/Londonderry Support Groups.
Kieran Hughes from Aware Defeat Depression said Singing Star North West is a great opportunity for the best undiscovered talent to shine on stage – and help a great cause.
“Every penny raised from Singing Star North West will go directly towards helping people affected by depression,” he said. “A big part of our work is going into local schools and teaching young people about the importance of looking after their mental health. The money raised from Singing Star North West will allow us to continue delivering that message to as many young people as possible.”
