Police in Derry are searching for the owner of car registered in the South of Ireland after it was abandoned in the city centre bound lane on the Creggan Road on Wednesday evening.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (P.S.N.I.) deployed a police helicopter to assist officers on the ground with the search. The incident happened at 8:15p.m.

Wednesday evening’s incident was the second car to be abandoned on the Creggan Road inside five days.

A section of the Creggan Road was closed to traffic on Friday April 8 when a car collided with a rubbish bin beside a bus shelter.

“The [April 8] collision occurred at around 9:20p.m. and involved a red Citroen car. A number of youths were seen leaving the area following the collision and no injuries were reported to police. Enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact officers in Strand Road on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,” said a P.S.N.I. spokesperson.
