The man said he was still in shock after being alerted about what had happened last Friday morning.

He said that many other Derry girls and women in their late teens and early 20s also appear to have targeted.

The man was actually sent a link to the photos from a local person he believes to be the culprit. As well as his daughter, there were many other images of girls from Derry posted on the same site who, in all probability, had no idea their images were stolen and used in this way, he claimed.

“I’m fuming; absolutely shocked,” he said. “The person who is doing this is taking the pictures off Facebook and copying the images onto an adult website.

“I just don’t know what goes through people’s heads.

“I would urge anybody who has put pictures of themselves on Facebook or any other social media to check their privacy settings. The photos taken are just pictures from parties and normal pictures but they are being uploaded to this adult site. It’s disgusting.

“You raise your children to be respectful and what you do not want is people seeing pictures on a site like this and getting the wrong idea. Everybody knows everybody here.

People need to make sure they change their privacy settings to private so that only their friends can see them.”

The Derry father said efforts were ongoing to try and get the pictures removed.

A spokesman for the PSNI said it was vital people check their settings. He said: “We all deserve to be able to use the internet to learn, explore and connect with each other. But all of us need to be aware of the risks involved in doing so, especially on social media.

“Our advice is: Don’t accept friend requests with someone you don’t know; set privacy settings on all devices so that only people you know can view your account; If someone has made you feel uncomfortable or you have had disturbing interaction, you can ring the police on 101.
