Sinn Féin councillor Brenda Chivers has welcomed news that the Post Office service for pensioners and benefit claimants has been safeguarded.

Cllr. Chivers said “A new £250 million contract to protect the vulernable pensioners, benefit claimants and help safeguard the future of the Post Office has been agreed by the government. The 7 year contract will be a big relief to vulnerable pensioners and benefit claimants who rely on this vital service in their everyday lives.”

She added “I know myself how important the local Post Office is to people especially in rural communities such as Drumsurn where I run the office. People depend on this to access to their money if they have no way of traveling to towns to visit banks.”
