Those responsible for a hoax bomb alert which led to dozens of people being evacuated form their homes in Sion Mills at the weekend have been described as “heartless”.
Sinn Féin councillor Brian McMahon was speaking after a security alert following a report that a device had been left at a business premises in the Liggartown area of Sion Mills.
Residents of Marshalls Road and Churchside Court were evacuated from their homes for around three hours during the alert.
Nothing was found during the follow up search and the incident was declared to be a hoax.
Colr. McMahon said; “There is seething anger in Sion Mills at whoever phoned in this hoax bomb warning especially given that a grieving family were waking their young daughter nearby. This hoax call was a heartless act.”
