Slievemore unit to close at end of May

The Western Trust has confirmed that the Slievemore Nursing Unit will close by the end of May.

The Trust confirmed the move last night following weeks of speculation,

It had previously been announced that the unit, which caters for older people with dementia, was set to close after a critical report from health watchdog, the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA).

A number of patients at the unit have already been moved to other facilities but relatives of others have voiced concerns over the closure when it had been suggested that it could be shut down by the end of this month.

However, the Trust confirmed yesterday that it will remain open for another two months before closing at the end of May.
