This weekend the Jammhouse at The Playhouse launches the first ever Jammhouse Jr’s showcase for ages 14 to 17.
The music project that has lunched many local talents since it started in March 2012, the Jammhouse will today hold an event solely for local young acts.
Acts announced include Megan McClean, Niamh McCay, DAN and Cahir McLaughlin, and a special performance by Soak, one of the Jammhouse’s expert performers and one of the city’s most promising up-and-coming acts.
The Jammhouse is a music project which invites local musicians to take part in a series of sofa sessions, in the hope of securing a spot in a live music event.
The project has grown from strength to strength.
The success of young rising star Bridie Monds Watson aka Soak’s first Jammhouse support gig in March 2012 and first headline gigs in August 2012 is just one example of the ways in which local rising talent are being given the stage.
“This event will see the Jammhouse widening its remit to a younger generation of bands and musicians, providing an even bigger platform for those who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to perform on stage. For many of the acts announced, this is their first taste under the spotlight” Áine McCarron at The Playhouse said.
“There’s is an extraordinary wealth of young talent in this city, we’re very excited about hosting a very special event that both nourishes and celebrates that talent.”
Jammhouse Jrs will come to the Playhouse tonight from 8pm to 11pm. Tickets are £5 and are available from The Playhouse Box Office on (028)71268027 or online at www.derryplayhouse.co.uk.
