Secret talks on flags in Limavady have led to an unprecendented agreement where loyalist and Union flags in one area of the town have been removed.
It is understood the flags were taken down in the last week, and the development is as a result of negotiations between local parties and representatives from other concerned bodies about the controversial issues of flags and parades in the borough.
The development has been hailed as “fantastic” by one resident who, along with other residents earlier this year, lobbied local councillors about the matter.
“As soon as they went down everyone was commenting about it, saying how much more sociable the area is because, whether you want to admit it or not, it did cause tension,” said the man. “The area is much more welcoming and people are more at ease and feel free to speak. All we wanted was a normal way of life, that’s all.”
