Boys and girls in the Children’s Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital have had their days brightened by a new arrival from Starlight Children’s Foundation in the form of an exciting Fun Centre.

Starlight Children’s Foundation is a national charity that provides hospital entertainment for children across the country and grants wishes for seriously and terminally ill children.

The Children’s Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital were delighted to receive a mobile entertainment unit that incorporates a Nintendo Wii console, four Nintendo DSi’s, DVD/ Blu-ray player, internet access and a flat screen TV.

Cathy Grady, Play Specialist Children’s Ward Altnagelvin Hospital, Western Trust said, “The fun centre hasn’t been with us long but they are already proving incredibly popular with patients and staff alike! The Starlight Fun Centres can be used in a number of ways to entertain and distract children during their hospital visit.

“They can be used to distract a child in bed that is undergoing treatment and to motivate children that need controlled exercise to aid their rehabilitation and can therefore speed their recovery time by building mobility. We can’t thank Starlight enough for providing us with these unique units, which will significantly benefit poorly children.”
