SDLP Derry City Councillor Brenda Stevenson says residents in Ardmore are delighted after work has started to tackle flooding problems that have plagued them for years.
Colr. Stevenson said for the last four to five years she has been lobbied by residents and campaigned on their behalf to have the issue at Nicholson Gardens addressed.
Colr Stevenson said: “The issue of flooding has plagued residents for the last four to five years, at least. I have been working with residents and Roads Service has attempted to tackle the issue with intermediary work.
“However, during recent canvasses it was apparent that the situation was not improving. It wasn’t pleasant for people to come home to find their homes had suffered a degree of flooding; or having to prepare to prevent flooding by dragging sandbags to the front of their homes.
“Roads Service is now working to upgrade the drainage system in the area and, of course, residents are delighted. Many of the people in the area are elderly so this is one problem they are more than happy is being addressed. It is certainly a welcome turn of events and we all hope this work finally brings an end to the flooding woes in this area.”
