Storm Henry has brought down masonry attached to a house in Fairman Place in Rosemount.

The incident happened when winds of almost 50mph battered Derry on Tuesday evening.

Local Sinn Fein Councillor, Mickey Cooper, was one of the first people on the scene.

“The storm has brought down masonry on the side of a house on the corner of Academy Road and Fairman Place,” said Colr. Cooper.

“It looks like more masonry could come down before the storm is over. I’ve just spoken to Derry City and Strabane District Council’s (DCSDC) Building Control and they are taking safety measures as we speak.”

Colr. Cooper explained that the rubble will be allowed to lie on the footpath overnight as a warning to pedestrians.

“A few weeks ago something like this happened to a house on the Northland Road - this building is of a similar age.

“I would urge all homeowners and landlords to do all they can to ensure something like this does not happen.”
