Hundreds of local ‘Superman’ fans attended the Northern Ireland premiere of ‘Man of Steel’ at the Brunswick Moviebowl on Wednesday evening.
The red carpet was rolled out and Warner Bros. security staff patrolled the corridors but when the film started at 7pm Derry joined the likes of Dublin and London as European cities to be the first to show Zack Snyder’ re-launch of the Superman franchise.
Brunswick Moviebowl, cinema manager, Eamonn Doherty said Wednesday evening’s showpiece was the local cinema’s most exciting night to date and described hosting the Northern Ireland premiere as a great honour.
“We were absolutely thrilled and honoured to be selected by Warner Bros Ireland to host the Northern Ireland premiere of the most epic and most anticipated movie of the year,” he said.
Superman fans started to queue for the premiere well before 7pm and some disciples of the man from Planet Krypton even came dressed for the occasion.
Fourteen year-old Ewan Latimer took his seat inside Screen One of the Brunswick Moviebowl a full hour before the film was due to start.
“I have been waiting for this day for so long,” said Ewan wearing his Superman emblazoned blue t-shirt.
“The trailers look amazing so I hope it’s good.
“For young people it’s great to see a local cinema bring something like this to Derry. I am so excited.”
