Local politicians have given their backing to the latest move in the campaign to bring the All Ireland Feladh to Derry.
Foyle MP Mark Durkan and Junior Minister Martina Anderson made the call after Cavan County Council made a presentation at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin about the benefits the events brought to the town.
Mr Durkan said; “The facts and figures in the strong narrative from Cavan reinforce the point that the Fleadh is not just a major all-Ireland event but a major global Irish event.”
Ms Anderson also gave her support to the campaign. “If Cavan’s experience can be replicated here and I have no doubt that it can, then the opportunity for Doire 2013 if we are successful in our bid for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is massive,” she said.
