Junior Minister Martina Anderson has called on local people to support the ‘From the Heart 3’ suicide awareness concert in the Millennium Forum next Friday.

The concert has been organised by Derry mother, Bebe Johnston, whose son, Eamonn, took his his own life in July 2007.

Ms Anderson said; “The concert, now a part of the Derry theatre calendar, is being organised for the third successive year by Eamonn’s very brave mother Bebe in the hope that it will maintain a focus on the unacceptable level of suicide in our society and particularly in our youth population.

“Proceeds from this concert will go to ‘YOUTHLIFE’, which is dedicated to helping troubled youth but it will endeavour to assist anyone who gets in contact regardless of age or situation.”

The Foyle MLA said the event will show solidarity with those bereaved by suicide.

“Not only will your attendance at this concert assist a worthwhile organisation to help troubled youth but I can guarantee you a night to remember. The concert will be compered by the one and only Michael Doherty, who will also perform with his Band ‘Upbeat’, and will be headlined by artists of the calibre of Frances Black and Damian McGinty of ‘Celtic Thunder’.”
